Bay Ridge House
This ambitious 1,000-square-foot apartment renovation project involved a full-scale reimagining of a second-floor corner unit in the vibrant neighborhood of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Positioned to the west, the apartment is suffused with abundant afternoon sunlight and a terrace.
The design challenge involved integration of design elements that meticulously organize and delineate the spaces for cooking, dining, sleeping, and living. The objective was to instill a modern and contrasting material palette, one that would harmonize with the apartment's unique character while elevating its aesthetic.
Baltic birch plywood lends a sense of simplicity and elegance to the interior. Complementing this, blackened steel elements bring an industrial edge, while charred Cypress millwork paneling adds a touch of depth and texture, creating a dynamic interplay between materials. This project embodies a keen sense of spatial design, blending natural light, outdoor living, and a sophisticated material selection to craft a contemporary and functional living space.
Facing west, with wonderful afternoon light and a terrace, the architecture becomes a series of design insertions into the space to organize and define cooking, eating, sleeping, and living items.
