Devon Prep Student Center

On the site of a 1913 agricultural mansion co-opted by the Piarists Order in 1955, the Devon Preparatory School Student Center in Devon, PA aims to fully integrate the upper school building with the scale and style of Calasanctius Hall, the centerpiece of the campus. Both a student union space and an event hall, the structure is situated to the north and extends outward at an angle, set behind the mansion whose red gables peek from beyond the site’s horizon.

Intentionally set low to the ground so as not to block the mansion, the zinc panel cladding blends seamlessly with the stonework of the original Hall. The student center creates an enclosure and joins two otherwise disparate structures into one cohesive yet retrofitted design.
