Surf Road House
The Surf Road House merges with the dunes, creating a harmonious transition between land, sea and sky. The volume incorporates offset rectangular frames and wood textures, breaking down the zoning envelope and delineating the interior divisions of the house.
In addition to its clean volumetric box design, the Surf Road House incorporates elements that harmonize with its natural surroundings on Fire Island. The cedar siding textures echo the hues of the surrounding dunes and driftwood.
Large framed window bays blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor, inviting the ocean and beach into the living spaces. The south facade windows frame ocean views from each room while the contrasting north facade stays closed and private.
An exaggerated trellis provides shade, street-side privacy, and inside-outside space. The wood trellis not only serves a functional purpose by providing shade but also adds a layer of architectural depth. Throughout the day, its dynamic shadows enhance the texture of the facade.
